From the Bombardier TRAXX AC3 platform, this locomotive is the mainstay in the German-speaking countries (D-A-CH) and can also be used for operations bound for Scandinavia (D-DK-S) and the Danube valley (D-A-HU-RO and D-A-CH-HU-RO). Fitted with a Last Mile diesel engine option, the BR 187 can be used for shunting in terminals and ports, or at worksites or other terminal facilities that are not generally electrified.
