This highly reliable locomotive type was re-engineered in 2007 through a collaboration of Newag and GE (now Wabtec) to suit the specific needs of the Polish freight market. It was equipped with new GE traction, control, cabs and body work combined with refurbished underframes and running gear. With its six-axle configuration, 2,162 kW engine and high tractive effort it is ideal for heavy freight trains across the Polish standard gauge network.
